The images in this series were created from hundreds of source images taken using a microscope. When taking images using a microscope, the Depth of Field is so shallow that the areas in focus are so minute that I needed to take multiple images of each section. Sections of which were then composited together to create the final image.
"During lockdown, I kept finding insects that had been trapped in my home. I remembered my children had a digital toy microscope gathering dust somewhere, so I decided to take a closer look at a bluebottle. What started off with the expectation of finding death and decay, perhaps a metaphor for the current world crisis, led me on an entirely different journey.
I had never looked at these creatures this closely before. It was fascinating. Even with a very basic microscope, the details I could see were amazing—tiny hairs, compound eyes, all perfectly evolved to work together for the benefit of the insect’s survival.
Through this series, my goal is to encourage viewers to explore the captivating intricacies of these creatures. By highlighting the remarkable details and exquisite features of these insects, I aim to foster a deeper appreciation for their complexity and beauty.
